You’d think that finding a good daily cleanser would be easy. After all, there are so many options. But that’s precisely what makes choosing one so challenging. For this reason, many people rely on reviews and word of mouth when it comes to finding a winning wash.
Case in point: For years I used St. Ives Apricot Scrub on my sensitive skin because that’s what my older sister used. But after years of scrubbing with the same cleanser and having not-so-luminous skin, I decided it was time to try something new.
Fresh Soy Face Cleanser reviews
The wash has over 4,000 5-star reviews and an additional 1,000 4-star reviews.
Fans of Fresh’s cleaner say it’s great for “super sensitive” and “acne prone skin” and despite being gentle, “it literally melts makeup off.” Reviewers also note that it leaves their skin feeling “clean, but not dry,” which is ideal for people who hate that tight and dried out feeling so many face washes render.
All this sounded great to me, so I got my hands on a bottle to try it for myself. My combination dry-oily skin is sensitive and prone to breakouts so was a bit nervous the first time I rubbed the gel-like cleanser on my face. But the results have been largely positive. While my skin doesn’t look all that different, I haven’t had a single zit since I started using the wash two weeks ago. And since it’s gentle enough to use on my eyes, I’ve been a lot more diligent about removing all (instead of just some) of my eye makeup every night.
Since using the product, I’ve also found that Fresh Soy Face Cleanser has a whole slew of devoted fans within my own social circle. Alisa Hrustic, another Prevention.com editor, was loyal to the product for over a year. She recently told me that she likes the cleanser because it’s gentle and doesn't leave her skin feeling dry. “Because I'm acne-prone and sensitive, lots of cleansers can feel harsh,” Hrustic says. “But this one from Fresh is super gentle, non-irritating, and hydrating. Plus, it feels really refreshing because of the scent."
Fresh Soy Face Cleanser ingredients
This cleanser works—and it works well, especially for those with sensitive skin. And that’s all thanks to the great ingredients inside the bottle, says Debra Jaliman, MD, a Manhattan-based dermatologist and assistant professor of dermatology at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. These are the ingredients doing the heavy lifting:
"Soy helps brighten the skin," Dr. Jaliman explains. "It also has properties that lessen the redness. People with rosacea can benefit products with soy."
Aloe vera is calming and staves off redness, Dr. Jaliman tells us. It's also anti-inflammatory, which is ideal for people with acne. "People with acne usually have very inflamed skin," she says.
Dr. Jaliman says cucumber soothes acne prone skin which tends to be red and irritated. Plus, it has a calming, fresh scent many customers say they enjoy.
This ingredient is very moisturizing, which helps prevent that tight skin sensation, which is a sign of dryness.
Sunflower also borage seed oils
These cleansing, hydrating ingredients prevent feelings of tightness and moisturize the skin without clogging pores, Dr. Jaliman says.
